You’ve said before that you used to suffer from panic attacks?

Panic attacks ruled my life for years. I’d really like to raise more awareness of them; I think something like one in five people have them. They just shatter your life. My twenties were really tough because of them - I was very, very fearful and scared of doing everything. I couldn’t go to the supermarket, I couldn’t go to crowds – I was very isolated and just stayed at home for a long time. It’s a fear of having them, you know when you have them it’s horrible, but then you live in fear of having one and that’s crippling. There’s this wonderful guy called Charles Linden who wrote the Linden Method, if you have panic attacks you should look at his website (http://www.thelindenmethod.co.uk). It’s amazing – it really sorted me out.
People are stressed – what’s happened now is that people feel guilty relaxing, but we’re not supposed to live in these stressful environments, especially women. That’s why I think so many women have trouble becoming pregnant and have hormone problems - we’re not supposed to live at this 95mph pace 24/7, you just exhaust yourself. I remember when I started the company, I thought ‘I can’t have holidays, I can’t stop’ and if I did stop I felt guilty. And I made myself sick from it because I just thought I couldn’t let people down. I know it’s cheesy, but you have to love yourself, appreciate what you have and you have to look after yourself and then the rest of it will all happen.

Do you ever do any detoxes?

Oh my god, yeah, I used to do detoxes all the time. I’d go and get my bloods done and do food intolerances and cut out all the foods I can’t eat, then I’ve done Ayurvedic ones, I’ve done the little packs you get, I’ve done so many. I didn’t eat sugar for nearly three years one time and I gave up alcohol for two and a half years. I love red wine now. I just find it all fascinating so I’ve tried it all, but the last one was so hardcore that it put me off detoxing. I went to California with my husband and did a detox where you literally don’t eat for a week. You don’t put any solids in your body at all and you have colonics every day. It was amazing but way too hardcore.

How do you stay in shape?

I can’t bear gyms. I find them really smelly and I just think they’re unhygienic, I’m sure they’re not but I hate them. I would much rather go out and train on a horse for two hours or take my dog on a really fast walk or play some tennis or whatever, than go to the gym. I used to be really into Pilates, I did it for about two years obsessively – my body was amazing. I’ll get back into that one day.

What’s your personal clothes style?

I’m a little hippy at heart, I love floral floatie Forties and Fifties dresses, I love the clothes and the cut. I’m either floaty-pretty or jeans with little tops and jackets and a pair of great shoes, or a really tailored dress from McQueen.

What’s your fashion weakness?

Shoes, coats – I’m obsessive. Jeans, vintage dresses – I don’t buy so many clothes now, I’m buying horses.
